The Department of Electrical Technologies at Al-Rumaitha Technical Institute organizes a
scientific visit to the Composite Al-Samawah Power Station Al-Rumaitha.
Under the guidance of the Dean of Al-Rumaitha Technical Institute, the respected Professor Dr.
Qahtan Al-Fatlawi, the Department of Electrical Technologies organized a scientific visit for the
department’s students to the Composite Al-Samawah Power Station, with the aim of enhancing
the students’ practical side and linking theoretical knowledge with field applications.
The department delegation was received by Mr. Assistant Director, Engineer Ali Makki. The
students were accompanied on their tour inside the station by Engineer Wael Salman, responsible
for the third shift, and Mr. Walid Muhaimid, responsible for the safety department at the station.
The visit included a detailed explanation of the various operations at the station, starting with
receiving fuel and filtering impurities using special filters, through to introducing the boiler,
combustion chambers, and air filters used before the air enters the air compressor. The
mechanism of turbine operation and its connection to the generator to convert kinetic energy into
electrical energy was also explained, as each unit in the station produces a capacity of up to 15
KVA.
The stages of electrical energy transmission were also reviewed, which include:
1. Using two transformers: the first a step-down transformer with a capacity of 6.6 KVA, and the
second with a step-up capacity of 132 KVA, to be connected to the local national grid.
2. The protection systems available in the control room, in addition to the advanced sensors used
to ensure work safety and achieve the best efficiency.
3. Personal and electrical protection systems used inside the station to protect workers and
equipment.
The engineers also talked about the alternative system (Standby), which is activated in cases of
sudden landing (Shut Down). The students were accompanied on their visit to the station by the
department’s professors, namely Engineer M. Ahmed Al-Shaher, Engineer Mujtaba Shaker, and
Mrs. Donia Jawad, accompanied by the head of the Information Division, Ms. Woroud
Farhan. The visit concluded with the students praising the valuable information they received,
and they expressed their thanks to the station management and the accompanying staff for the
good reception and detailed explanation.
