In line with its commitment to advancing academic engagement with sustainable technologies, Al-Rumaitha Technical Institute, under the supervision of its Dean Professor Dr. Qahtan Al-Fatlawi, organized a specialized scientific workshop titled:
“Solar Thermal Power Plants and Their Potential Application in Iraq.”
The event was held in conjunction with the inauguration of the Renewable Energy Laboratory at the institute and welcomed a distinguished gathering of professionals and academics. Attendees included Engineer Bashar Ghazi, Head of the Engineers Syndicate – Al-Muthanna Branch; Engineer Saif Hassanein, Deputy Head of the Syndicate; Mr. Ammar Al-Hasnawi; Associate Deans; and a number of faculty and technical staff.
The workshop featured expert lectures delivered by Professor Dr. Qahtan Abdul Al-Fatlawi and Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Razzaq Hassan, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs. The presentations offered a scientific introduction to Solar Thermal Power Plants, outlining key technologies such as:
- Solar Parabolic Trough Collectors
- Solar Power Towers
- Chimney Power Plants
The speakers emphasized the viability of implementing these systems in Iraq, particularly in vast regions such as the Samawah Desert, which presents optimal conditions for deploying solar technologies. Such initiatives, they noted, could play a pivotal role in strengthening the national power grid through clean and renewable energy sources.
This workshop marks a significant step in the institute’s broader strategy to integrate renewable energy solutions into academic research and technical training, while leveraging the capabilities of its newly established, state-of-the-art laboratory.
